Employee Profile: Carey Grange

Carey Grange, Executive Vice President, Direct to Consumer

How long have you been at Murad?
5 years

What is something most people don’t know about you?
I had a mullet in the sixth grade

What beauty item can you not live without?
Tweezers

What is your favorite restaurant?
Cha Cha Cha in LA. Its Caribbean-inspired faire by chef Toribio Prado. Seriously the most amazing jerk chicken you’ve ever tasted.

What is your favorite designer/outfit and why?
I love Gavin pants. They’re made by an LA designer, come in a variety of contemporary cuts and seasonal fabrics, and they’re long enough for my 36″ inseam. I was introduced to them by Katie Wagner, Murad aficionado and former host of our Acne Complex infomercial.

Worst fashion faux paux?
Crocs (for the record I do not own a pair).

What is the last book you read OR movie you saw?
Book: There is No Me Without You by Melissa Faye Green.

What are your favorite Murad products and why?
Hmm. I’m newly hooked on the Resurgence night regimen, and I can’t live without my Daily Renewal Complex and Soothing Lip Treatment.

Pomegranates: Why the Hype?

Ah, pomegranates. A strange-looking fruit filled with ruby-like seeds bursting with a sweet, red elixir. No doubt you’ve seen pomegranates pop up in everything from cocktails to cosmetics, with promises of glowing health accompanying them. So what’s all the hype about?

Pomegranate was used by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans for medicinal purposes and has strong age-proofing benefits. Pomegranate is also rich in polyphenols and Ellagic Acid, a powerful antioxidant currently studied for its anti-cancer and healing benefits. Additionally, pomegranates are high in vitamin C, rich in folic acid and tannins (that good stuff you find in dark chocolate and red wine) and boast a high level of antioxidants. These combat the free radicals floating about which are said to cause premature aging.

Perhaps the most extraordinary benefit of this radically innovative ingredient is that it actually boosts the SPF rating of topical sunscreens so that the same SPF protection levels are maintained using less chemicals and more antioxidants than comparable products.

Taken internally, the Pomphenol Supplement (100% pomegranate extract) enhances the SPF rating of topical sunscreen products up to 25%.

Antioxidants—Defenders of the Human Body

by Lori Cahitas Spa Services Manager

Antioxidants fight off free radicals by neutralizing them every second of the day. What’s a free radical you ask? They are unstable electrons that wreak havoc on us by destroying healthy cells. Exposure to environmental stressors such as smog, cigarette smoke and sun can bombard your skin with unwanted free radical damage.

You can find antioxidants in goji berries, acai, fruits, vegetables and supplements. Antioxidants are in everything from smoothies to skincare products. Topical and internal antioxidants provide some protection against environmental damage and are said to help us age gracefully. So remember to eat those 3 servings of fruits and 4 servings of veggies a day, they really make a difference!
