You have a big day tomorrow, and all of a sudden you notice a gigantic blemish on your face. As you search the internet and call all of your friends to determine what the best acne treatment for your sudden pimple is, you encounter tons of advice suggesting that you use toothpaste to treat and heal the blemish. Is toothpaste a reliable and healthy way to get rid of blemishes? Is there a better acne treatment product for blemishes? Not surprisingly, there are reasons why so many people recommend toothpaste for blemish control, but there are an equal number of reasons why you’ll be better off using a true acne product.
What Does Toothpaste Do to Heal Acne?
The first thing to understand is “How does toothpaste heal acne?” The primary ingredient in toothpaste that dries and heals blemishes is mint. Mint in any form, including fresh mint juice, has a drying quality to skin. Once a blemish becomes inflamed acne (visible on the face), the best solution to healing it is typically to dry it out so that it flakes away from the surface. Toothpaste is, unquestionably, effective a drying out blemishes.
Why is Toothpaste Harmful to Your Skin?
So if the best solution for healing inflamed acne is to dry out those blemishes, why is toothpaste bad for your skin? After all, we’ve already determined that it’s effective at drying out blemishes. However, the key with any acne solution is to dry out the blemish without over-drying the skin. Toothpaste is formulated to clean plaque from your teeth. It’s obviously very powerful, and it will certainly over-dry most skin. When you over-dry your skin while healing a blemish, you increase the chances that you’ll develop post-acne marks or acne scars. While finding an acne treatment can be a challenge, finding an acne scar treatment or way to fade post-acne marks can be even harder. You want to protect your skin from over-drying and future marks and scars.
What’s a Better Solution for Spot Acne Treatment?
The better solution for drying and healing blemishes is to use a product specifically designed to heal spot blemishes while maintaining health skin. An acne spot treatment such as Murad Acne Spot Treatment is an ideal solution. Murad Acne Spot Treatment is formulated using sulfur, which has been used as an healthy skin treatment for centuries. Even the Romans bathed in sulfur hot springs to improve their skin health. Not only does sulfur dry acne, but it also heals the surrounding skin, reducing the immediate look of redness and irritation as well as reducing the future chance of acne scars and post-acne marks.
What’s the important thing to remember? In a pinch, if you have no other options and an uncomfortable and highly visible blemish, toothpaste can be an emergency remedy. However, for healthy skin and long-term acne treatment benefits, you’ll want to use products designed for treating your skin – not for stripping plaque from your teeth!

I had used pretty much every acne product on the market, and nothing worked. I tried the Acne Complex Introductory Kit on a whim and for the first time I feel comfortable without makeup. My face cleared up in about two weeks and now I will be a life-long customer. Thanks!
I have tried different acne treatments but I have to say this is the best one ever!!! It has done miracle in my face. My face look clear and very healthy it worked so good that my sister and my sister’s friend got it for themselves. It is a very good product and i recommend it to every single person i meet! At the beginning I did notice the slightest amount of purging on my right cheek, but it went away soon enough. The product is unique, I think, because unlike most other acne treatments, Murad actually feels good to use and as far as I can see, works much better than any product with BP. Murad dries my skin out just a little bit, not enough to actually crack my skin, but enough to make it just noticeably rougher. It is, however, very easily remedied with another application of their skin perfecting lotion. I hope that Murad will continue to work in the future. So far so good!
