Five Skin Care Tips for Football Season
Kickoff is here! In the U.S., both the college and NFL regular seasons begin this month. It may seem like watching football isn’t something that could impact your skin care goals or your skin’s health. However, like most things in your life, everything that you do impacts everything else around you. Whether you’re watching football at a live event or enjoying a game on TV with friends, keep your skin’s needs in mind. Here are five ways to make sure that your skin is touchdown ready all football season long.
The Pep Rally: Be Gentle with the Face Paint!
Face paint has its place in this world – and that place is during the game! Make sure that you remove and cleanse your face paint off after the game to avoid clogged pores and acne breakouts. If your skin is sensitive, be sure to patch test your face paint on a small section of skin before you use it in order to make sure that you won’t have any unsightly reactions later on!
Product Tip: If you do experience a rash or reaction to face paint, sooth the redness and irritation by using Murad Recovery Treatment Gel. This gel calms irritations and reduces redness on contact.
The Fan Get Together: Be Careful of the Game Day Diet
Think about what you typically eat during a football game. We’re guessing that for many people that means nachos, French fries, soda, chips, chicken wings, pizza and probably some beer for the over-twenty-one crowd. Beautiful skin starts from the inside out with a focus on Inclusive Health™ practices. Enjoy a vegetable plate and be sure to drink lots of water during the game. Moderation is a great tool for healthy living. If you’re not ready to entirely give up game day foods, work to wean yourself to a healthier diet by mixing in antioxidant rich fresh fruits and vegetables and healthy glasses of water and natural juices.
At the Game: Sun Block and Sunscreen are a Must
It’s great to get out and watch a live football game. The energy of the crowd and the experience of live sports are fantastic ways to relieve stress (unless you’re losing!) and break up normal daily patterns. However, always remember that nothing does more damage to skin than the sun, causing the signs of aging skin, including dark spots and age spots, wrinkles and even skin disease. The best skin care is often preventative skin care, so be sure to use a sun block or sunscreen when you’re at any football game that happens before sundown.
Product Tip: Don’t forget that your eyes need sun protection, too! Murad Essential-C Eye Cream SPF 15 | PA ++ provides protection from UV rays to the sensitive skin beneath and around your eyes so that you maintain a healthy, youthful appearance.
Game Time: Reduce Stress. It’s Only a Game!
Stress takes its toll on your skin, so much so that Emotional Self Care™ is one of the three pillars of Dr. Murad’s Inclusive Health™ program. During football season, men and women alike invest a huge amount of energy into cheering their teams on. Remember, the competition of a game is good fun, but when it becomes something that causes actual stress in your life it has the opposite impact. Don’t let a sport decrease your health and enjoyment of life, whether you’re a participant or an observer!
Postgame: If You Play the Sport, Use Good Post-Game Skin Care
From casual pick-up games to serious athletes, for many people part of football season is actually playing the game. Athletic and physical activities are one of the most important things that you can do for your overall health, but they can also take a toll on your skin in the form of dirt, oil, sweat and sun exposure. Be sure to gently cleanse and then moisturize your skin after any workout activity to remove excess dirt and oil and restore healthy hydration to your skin. If you’re playing football outdoors, make sure to use proper sun protection!
Product Tip: If you’re prone to post-workout breakouts, then you may also want to incorporate a back acne treatment into your skin care plan. Murad Clarifying Body Spray delivers acne-fighting medication topically with just one spray.
No matter what your team is or how football plays a role in your life, for many Americans it’s a huge part of the fall and winter. Make it a healthy part of your life, and make sure to think about the ways in which football impacts the other parts of your life. That includes the health and appearance of your skin!
