What Skin Care Shopping Personality Are You?

When it comes to skin care and purchasing skin care products, there are many different types of consumers. Getting to know your skin care shopping personality can help you identify why you choose the skin care products and regimens you do—and help you avoid wasting money on products that aren’t right for you. Read on to learn which skin care shopping personality best describes you and how changing your habits can improve your skin’s health.

The Impulse Buyer: You know who you are! You’re wandering through the aisles at the store or surfing the Internet during lunch and suddenly you’ve spent $50 on an acne treatment product or a night cream because some sales copy or packaging caught your eye.

The Problem: If you’re buying skin care products on impulse, then you’re probably not doing enough research. Before you buy, make sure you’re shopping based on your skin type or skin concern or choosing a long-term skin care regimen for healthy skin.

The Media Lover: There’s nothing wrong with choosing a skin care product based on what you’ve seen on television or read on the Internet or in a magazine. But the Media Lover has a closet full of skin care products that have only been used once or twice.

The Problem: You can’t believe everything you read or see! The media influences many of our purchasing decisions, but it’s up to you to figure out which products are really right for you. If you have a closet full of skin care products you never use, do your research before you buy.

The Compulsive Tester: You buy skin care product after skin care product and test them all for about a week before you move on to something new. Sound familiar? If you have dozens of half-used bottles of skin care products in your bathroom, you’re a Compulsive Tester.

The Problem: Most skin care products, particularly anti aging and anti wrinkle treatments, won’t transform your skin overnight. It takes time to see real results. If you’re compulsively testing skin care products, chances are you’re not giving your skin care purchases enough time to do what they’re supposed to before you move on to the next product.

The Loyal Brand Advocate: If you’re in this category, you’ve found a skin care product brand you love that works for you, and you’re not interested in trying anything else. Ever.

The Problem: There’s nothing wrong with sticking to a product line you love! Just be sure that you’ve done your research and know for sure that the brand not only addresses your current skin concerns, but can grow with your needs and keep your skin healthy and beautiful in the future too. From hormonal aging and genetic aging to environmental factors, there are many issues that can affect your skin’s needs at different stages in your life, and your skin care should be able to address these concerns.

The Price-Conscious Buyer: If you’re the type of person who isn’t going to spend more than $20 on a skin care product—ever—and you think that people who do are throwing their money away,  you’re a Price-Conscious Buyer.

The Problem: Especially in this day and age, making a budget and sticking to it is responsible. However, your skin is your body’s largest organ, and buying skin care products “on the cheap” may not be the best way to watch your budget. Many cheap skin care products contain fillers and less advanced ingredients that can’t address your skin’s needs over time. And when you buy products that don’t work, no matter how cheap they are, you’re wasting your money.

The Patient Researcher: Whether you’re looking for a face mask or a skin cleanser, you take the time to learn about brands, ingredients and how skin care products will work as part of a complete skin care regimen. You read customer reviews and then take several months to test the products and track their success.

The Problem: There isn’t one! You’ve made responsible decisions and your skin will benefit in the long run. You buy from reputable companies that stand by their products and have the service to back it up.

Even if you aren’t a Patient Researcher, you can still avoid the pitfalls of your skin care shopping personality with a little effort—and we can help! Our Certified Skincare Specialists are always here to answer your skin care questions and help you find the products that are right for you.
